Travel Agency: Yay or Nay?

So you want to travel? At that period of time when you are about to book your trip did you ever wonder if you should be using a travel agency? You probably thought why bother and just do it yourself using the internet or by calling up the airlines, the hotels, the car places and anything else that may be associated with your travel plans. There are times when not using the services of a travel agency can benefit you.
Booking online using web site like ediscount tickets or priceline you can select many different aspects of your travel itinerary. You can choose how long your vacation will be, where you will stay and even what airports you want to use to get there as well as to take home. You will be able to set your travel plans around whatever dates that you really wish to travel in. And, in the end, your travel plans will come out to be much cheaper than you they would have using a travel agent (after all, you don’t pay yourself a commission). You see – when you go to a travel agency it winds up costing you more because your trip package will always include a portion of their overhead. You are paying for the person at the counter, the agent herself and even the paper clip. The internet is there for you every hour of every day leaving you the ability to book your trip at your leisure.
There are times when a travel agent may be to your advantage. If you have specific needs or requirements then you risk the problem of not being able to place an order online. Agents are much more suited to being able to accommodate your needs like eating plans, special seating, medication needs and the like and even wheel chair access. An agent will be able to hook you up with whatever it is that you need because they know who to talk to in order to get things done and they can guarantee your trip as well.
Cruises are such an example because you may have special wants and desires with what type of cabin you want to be in not to mention specifics of where you want to go, how you will get around once you are there and what the sites are for you to see – they can arrange all of that for you. You can do all of this on the internet too but it takes more time and can cost you more money and there really aren’t sites available that cover all of this.
When it is said and done the final decision lies with you. Some are not comfortable with leaving plans to a complete stranger – others have no problem. Some people just do not like the internet and so they opt for the stranger approach. No one can tell you what the best choice is but yourself. Try out an agent once and see how it goes. If it doesn’t go as you like you can always plan it yourself on your next trip.
